KEF Announces Its New All-In-One Floor-Standing Wireless Streaming Speakers

Classic British speaker brand KEF has announced the launch of its new LS60 Wireless system, a powerful active streaming set-up offering a comprehensive all-in-one audio system in a speaker-shaped package.

The KEF LS60 Wireless is launching to coincide with the company’s 60th anniversary and it offers a glimpse into how KEF envisages high-fidelity sound in the future. The KEF engineering team has incorporated some of the latest audio technology in the LS60 Wireless to produce its best streaming performance to date.

The LS60 Wireless comprises two floor-standing speakers. Inside each cabinet is a combined 1,400 Watts of dedicated amplification separately driving the high, middle and low frequencies. The central and newly designed four-inch Uni-Q driver features a host of bespoke refinements for producing a wide field of sound at impressively low distortion levels.

Two pairs of KEF Uni-Core drivers flank the sides of each cabinet and their job is to boost the bass response. The combined driver placement within the speaker cabinet is adapted from KEF’s Blade Series (costing up to $35,000 per pair). The LS60 Wireless is the first all-in-one streaming audio system with a true point source configuration. The drivers are precisely calibrated to cover the entire bandwidth of sound so that all frequencies radiate from a single point. KEF claims that the result is noticeably more precise imaging and highly accurate, melodic sound across a wider listening area.

The LS60 Wireless has plenty of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI eARC, optical, coaxial, and RCA inputs. The system is designed for use with televisions, gaming consoles and any movie or music listening experience. The speakers can be operated with either wired or wireless interspeaker connectivity and this arrangement means the LS60 Wireless can be positioned almost anywhere in a room.

The system is easy to set up with out-of-the-box wireless Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast and Bluetooth compatibility. The KEF Connect smartphone app can be used to stream Amazon Music, Qobuz and Deezer as well as Internet radio and podcasts. Users can also stream directly from Spotify Connect, Tidal and QPlay. The LS60 Wireless is Roon Ready.

As well as streaming music, the LS60 Wireless can be connected to a turntable, CD player, gaming console or TV, thanks to its HDMI eARC input. A dedicated output on each cabinet enables the connection of one subwoofer or a stereo pair of KEF subwoofers.

The LS60 Wireless is compatible with the most popular digital file formats for high-resolution music streaming. The system supports PCM files up to 24bit/384kHz, as well as DSD and MQA decoding. In partnership with MQA, Tidal – one of KEF’s compatible streaming platforms – delivers Master Quality Authenticated recordings directly from the source.

Available in three matte finishes – Titanium Grey, Mineral White or Royal Blue – the LS60 Wireless has colorways that were explicitly chosen to complement any interior design. All finishes feature tone-matched drive units.

Pricing & Availability: The KEF LS60 Wireless will be available for pre-order direct and through all authorized dealerships from May 12th, with shipping estimated to begin at the end of May 2022. The price will be $7,000 per system.
