Here’s How Much Money School Psychologists Make In Every State

In a past study, we analyzed and determined the average pay of elementary school teachers in the United States in 2022. Returning to the world of educational jobs, this time around we wanted to focus on an educational occupation that is often overlooked: school psychologists. These people play an invaluable role in diagnosing and implementing individual and schoolwide interventions plus strategies in order to deal with educational, behavioral, or developmental issues that may negatively affect the functional educational operation of a school. Thus, school psychologists are as essential to education as teachers, principals, aides, and everything in between.

For playing such a major role in education and in the lives of young people, we wondered how much school psychologists earn. And since geography is critical to how much any occupation is paid because salaries vary from state to state and city to city, we deciding to analyze data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Occupational Employment Statistics (OES), and determined the states where the average school psychologist salary is highest and where they are the lowest.

10 States Where School Psychologists Earn the Most Money in 2022

Looking at the country, the average school psychologist salary in the U.S. is $82,770. That annual wage is actually better than many of the top-paying teaching jobs in the best states for teachers. The national average school psychologist salary is over $30,000 more than the average annual wage for all occupations in the nation, $58,260.

Below is a breakdown of the top 10 states where school psychologists earn the most money. Geographically, it is the West and Northeast states of the U.S. that dominate the list.
