As Cigna Adds More Services, Insurer Adjusts Brands To Reflect Benefits And ‘Evernorth Health Services’

Cigna is adjusting the brands of its health benefits and health services businesses and changing the holding company name to The Cigna Group.

The company said Monday it now has “three distinct brands: The Cigna Group, the global health company; Cigna Healthcare, the health benefits provider; and Evernorth Health Services, the pharmacy, care and benefits solutions provider.”

The changes mean the following:

· Cigna Healthcare is the health benefits provider of The Cigna Group, “serving customers and clients through its U.S. Commercial, U.S. Government and International Health businesses,” the companies said.

· Evernorth Health Services includes the Express Scripts pharmacy benefit manager (PBM); the home delivery and mail order operation, Express Scripts Pharmacy; the MDLive telehealth company; the Accredo specialty pharmacy; the medical management operation, eviCore; and myMatrixx, which manages drug benefits for workers compensation programs.

“Over the last several years, we’ve built a diverse portfolio of leading capabilities to serve more people across our businesses,” The Cigna Group’s chief brand and marketing officer, Lou Aversano said. “Now, we are evolving our brand architecture to reflect how we are serving the breadth of our relationships today and into the future.”

Cigna is the latest company to adjust its brands in the face of the rapidly changing healthcare industry. In particular, health insurers like Cigna are adding more healthcare services.

UnitedHealth Group, has long operated the UnitedHealthcare health insurance company and related health benefits businesses and has housed its medical care services under the Optum brand.

And last year, the health insurer Anthem, parent of Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plans in 14 states, renamed its holding company, “Elevance Health” while its healthcare services now fall under the “Carelon” name.
